Greenford Hall is an entertainment venue with an important civic presence in the town. It dates from the late 1950s and is reminiscent of Scandinavian Modernist architecture. In 2010 Ealing Council approached the practice to produce a vision of the future of the hall for public consultation. The main driver for the project was to create an economically viable resource for the community that attracts professional performers and draws in the local community.
The design reorientates the building to make a new south facing civic space next to the memorial gardens and set back from the main road under mature trees. A new accessible entrance links into a new double-height reception space, which brings light into the middle of the building. The addition of a new café and first floor community room to the east increase the building’s presence and connection to the town centre.
