The new Arts Council England offices in Exeter were designed to encourage creativity by using open spaces to facilitate internal communication, as well as bringing in daylight and minimising clutter.
The sixty individual workstations are complemented by eight communal spaces, all with easy access to both open and closed filing, an illuminated storage wall fabricated using bespoke joinery. An array of deep fins traverse the ceiling void, concealing the services and diffusing the natural light.
In keeping with its role as an arts organisation, the client commissioned an artist to collaborate on the project with us. Huw Milner, an installation artist, produced a live broadcast of the skyscape to be screened in the reception area and orchestrated the phones of each employee to have a different ringtone, which come together as an office symphony.
