Part 2 Role

Níall McLaughlin Architects is looking for an enthusiastic Part 2 architectural assistant to join our studio. Successful applicants will work within the practice on a series of recent commissions and projects at early concept and pre-planning stages of design in the residential, educational and civic sectors.

The candidates will have exceptional design and communication skills. They will be highly motivated and good team workers.

Within your CV and portfolio, we are seeking demonstration of the following skills:

  • interpersonal and team work skills,
  • communication and presentation skills,
  • highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign,
  • advanced 2D draughtsmanship: Vectorworks experience preferred,
  • highly proficient 3D draughtsmanship and visualisation skills: SketchUp, V-Ray and

Rhino; Confident use of 3D software during design workshops and consultant meetings is advantageous.

  • advanced physical model-making skills.

Experience preparing presentation material for major planning applications and design competitions is desirable.

Senior Architect Role

Níall McLaughlin Architects is looking for highly motivated Senior Architects to join our studio. Successful applicants will work within the practice on ambitious projects within the residential and civic sectors.

We are seeking candidates who have a minimum of five years post-Part II experience, are Part III qualified and have a proven record of running medium to large scale projects. In the role, candidates will be expected to lead the day-to-day coordination of the design consultants and take responsibility for positive communication with invested stakeholders and experienced client user-groups. Candidates are asked to demonstrate experience overseeing a small team of architects and assistants and their communication skills reporting to a line manager and a practice Principal or Director.

The role offers the opportunity to work alongside intelligent and highly motivated design consultants, colleagues and clients on ambitious and high-quality architectural commissions.


  • delivering complex multi-sector projects,
  • co-ordinating design teams ensuring timely delivery of work stages,
  • communicating with engaged and ambitious client groups,
  • leading and overseeing an internal team,
  • developing strong integrated designs from concept to detailed design,
  • managing planning and tender design submissions,
  • preparing detail packages, and,
  • liaising with contractors and undertaking site inspections under a range of contracts.

Skills required:

  • experience of delivering projects through all RIBA stages,
  • interpersonal and team building skills,
  • communication and presentation skills,
  • exceptional design and detailing experience,
  • current technical knowledge, experience working with CLT or modern building technologies would be advantageous but not essential,
  • Use of the Adobe suite,
  • Proficiency in Vectorworks and Rhino is advantageous but not essential,
  • Experience using 3D modelling software or leading projects delivered using Revit will be a distinct advantage.

Work Experience

Each summer, Niall McLaughlin Architects runs a work experience programme for pupils from local schools. The project fulfils the work experience requirements of Year 10 and Year 12. We encourage pupils and schools to apply for this by contacting Successful candidates will be involved in our studio and visit construction sites and will receive a stipend for the duration of their work experience. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from pupils from state schools and academies. Our policy is to prioritise requests from students from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds.  We are happy to hear from local schools about assisting in work experience initiatives, for example careers lectures, workshops and attendance at careers fairs.
