Joel studied at Chelsea School of Art and then at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, for both his degree and diploma. Between 2009 and 2013 he designed and made furniture and exhibition pieces for venues including The Bartlett and Somerset House, taught with the design education organisation the Sorrell Foundation, and worked for the architects and exhibition designers Nissen Richards Studio on a range of museum exhibitions and residential projects. He has taught in the first year at the Bartlett since 2009.
Joel joined Niall McLaughlin Architects in 2014. Since then, he has worked on projects including a new building for St Cross College in Oxford, the Scotland Wing Extension in Bishop Auckland and the ‘Presences’ exhibition piece for the 2018 Venice Biennale. He is currently working on a new stone building for the choir at Trinity Hall and Magdalene college in Cambridge.
