• 2011 Mies Van der Rohe Award: The House at Goleen has been nominated for the European Mies Van der Rohe award. • Hastings Pier: We were shortlisted for the RIBA competition to regenerate Hastings Pier. • Congratulations: Bev and Gav welcomed Eleanor to the family on the 18th of January. • Wood Architecture Now: Our cafe-bar at Deal Pier and House at Pipers End have been published in the latest Taschen book on new uses in wood architecture. • An Introduction to the Architectural Heritage of West Cork: Our houses in Goleen and Dirk Cove have been published in this 2011 guide by The National Inventory of Architectural Heritage. The authors state, 'The houses at Dirk Cove, Clonakilty and Goleen by Niall McLaughlin Architects are examples of contemporary architecture at its best...' • Elgin marbles revealed: The Architects' Journal released the first photos of our Athlete's Village housing project in Stratford on the 3rd of February. • Detail magazine review of glass construction: Our house at Anglesea Road has been reviewed in the January/February issue of Detail magazine. The article focuses on the use of glass in contemporary architecture. • University College Dublin 'Antiphon' installation: A team from the office visited University College Dublin from the 18th-21st of February to create a pencil drawing on a lime plaster floor in the Front Room Gallery. Niall also presented a talk on Monday the 21st with Sheila O'Donnell. • Topping out at Somerville College: A milestone was reached on Monday 28th February 2011, as the new student accommodation blocks for Somerville College, Oxford, celebrated its topping out ceremony. Completion is due in August 2011, ready for the new academic year in late September. |
