This is a small rural development in the North East of Scotland, approximately six miles from the coastal town of Nairn.
We have drawn on local vernacular architecture so as to retain the heritage of this site. Being a rural site, it requires a unique sense of self and community, and we are therefore incorporating a communal space in amongst the six houses.
Each of the six houses are based on rural houses and farmhouses from
Switzerland and Sweden. We are interested in the simple nature of these
houses. The houses in this scheme each comprise of two distinct sections
within the house - an open plan living area with high ceiling, and a
double-storey section housing the bedrooms and bathrooms.
